Changes to WimTibackx.be

As I’m typing this, I’ve just finished a first batch of changes to this website. In the next couple of weeks, my website will get some updates. Let’s take a look at what has changed and what is coming up.

First off, I’ve got a new logo, which you can see at the top of this page. This also includes new avatars on twitter and facebook. Secondly, my homepage isn’t showing my newest blogposts anymore, but (for now) is showing some meaningless introduction text. In the next couple of weeks, more stuff will fill that space. This means that my blog overview has now moved to the blog page. This opens the possibility of more flexibility for custom post types, which leads us to the next part of this post…

As said, I’ve got some new stuff coming up later. This includes my poetry (custom post type), upgrades to the layout, tighter integration with twitter and facebook, more info about my current projects and lots more I’m currently thinking about. Some of these changes will happen in the next couple of weeks, while some will land later. I will try to gradually improve this website. This might/will probably incorporate a move away from WP later on, but that is far from sure, for now.

This website used to be just my blog, but on the long term, I hope it will become, as the subtitle says, my personal localhost. Meaning that I hope it to become the collection and centralization of the bits of me all over the internet. To fully carry out this plan, I might have to move away from WP to custom software later, which I won’t hesitate to do.

That’s all for now, folks! See you later!

Forking WordPress, bbPress & BackPress

I’m unhappy with the recent developments in WordPress, bbPress and BackPress. WP 3.0 features the new custom post type system, but there is no way of altering the default post types, or deleting them. The minimum requirement is still php 4.3 and almost nothing is object oriented, which makes developing a pain in the ass. The bbPress project is stonedead. Matt, the founder of WP, will transform it into a plugin for wordpress and the standalone project will disappear (it might be forked by community members though). BackPress doesn’t have a real future because the biggest project, WordPress doesn’t use it. Therefore, I will fork the three of them.
